April 25, 2022 was the premiere of Grace Young's song in memory of her father, "I Know You're in Heaven". Grace was a DZF Music Mentor Program grant recipient. In the course of the program, she conceptualized the song, wrote lyrics, recorded vocals, and shot a full music video for it.
The Music Mentor program focuses on youth mental health. Students in the program use the songwriting process as a way to work through trauma, difficult feelings, or challenging situations. Student advocacy and agency is paramount in the creation of the song.
So much more goes into the process than meets the eye in the final video. To give viewers a more in-depth experience of songwriting, there is also a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of this very beautiful and emotional song.
